“Two years ago I was participating in a healing ceremony with a shaman of the Iquitos tribe of Peru. We were on the banks of the Maranon river near where it meets the Ucayali river to form the Amazon. In that ceremony I was given a vision. I saw my two main Buddhist deities, Tara and Kwan Yin. They were resplendent in translucent, many colored robes and they spoke to me, saying that the healing work I had been doing with shamans the past 8 years had been very good, but that they also wanted me to return to my Buddhist tradition and teach meditation. The inspiration for Two Rivers Sangha was born on that night.”

Two of the many rivers of spirit that are meeting in the Americas at this time are the Buddhist tradition from Asia and the native tradition of Shamanism from the indigenous people of North and South America. We believe that here in the Americas Buddhists have a special need to connect with and learn from Nature and the indigenous communities that base their life and spiritual faith on nature. It is only through a humble and sincere apprenticeship with Nature and the first people to live in this land that we can evolve a truly native practice of the Buddha’s teachings.
Two Rivers Sangha sponsors meditation groups, retreats and teachings as well as healing ceremonies and vision quests. We find common ground in the space where our true nature is revealed as nature herself, spontaneous and complete. |
